I’m a senior developer with over 15 years of development experience. Over that time, I’ve had decent to good paying jobs, but all were for no-name companies. I would like to have a name-brand tech company (Microsoft, Amazon, etc.) on my resume but do not want to move to either Seattle or SF. How open are these companies to remote employees?
They all have offices in LA, NY, Boston if those are acceptable
No at FB for sure.
Netflix has some remotes.
Mozilla has remotes as well :)
I'm remote. Mozilla sends the whole company to two all hands meetings per year and there's a decent travel budget. The company provides budget for outfitting your home office or coworking. Also, we have large offices in cheaper cities like Toronto and Portland.
Hey! Always wanted to ask, do you think that Mozilla exploits its volunteers at some extend or the tasks of volinteers and workers are carefully divided?
Our volunteers are great. Our very best volunteers get their travel covered to attend our all hands meeting. I'd say we appreciate their work, but don't depend on it.
I worked remotely at Dell when a recruiter from Amazon reached out to me. The position was based in Seattle. Since I wasn't actively looking to switch, I asked her if they would be open to me working remotely. They asked me to fly to Seattle 2 weeks a month for the first 3-6 months while I learnt the work and then I could work remotely and travel as needed. So it worked out for me. One caveat, I dont work as a developer
What is your work then?
Part of the team shaping contracts for large customers. Mix of finance and sales
I took the Amazon job for the ability to work remotely. But I'm not sure it's a super common offer. Depends strongly on the team/manager.
Amazon has some, search the job website and check the location, one option in search is remote I believe
My team at Amazon has 2 remotes. It depends on your manager. They both started on location and went full remote after 1 year.

Worried that our top performer is an attrition risk. How do managers handle this?
I’ve tried pretty hard to find remote options with both Google and FB recruiters. It’s pretty much a no go. Amazon has a few but not many. What do you consider name-brand? Only FAANG?
