Any recommendations on how to land a marketing role without much direct experience?
I had a similar experience to the above... it’s helpful to move roles within the same company rather than applying straight in to another company for a new role, having a mentor to help and be in your corner, spending some time learning what you can about different tasks while not yet in the role, and getting your hands dirty by doing what nobody else wants to do will help you learn and make you valuable enough until you can elevate yourself above the bitch work. Also, if it doesn’t work out to your liking similar to what happened with me, you can bounce back to where you were before with less effort or into another field with a little more effort.
Thanks!
Can you ask an experienced manager on a Marketing team for mentorship? Ideally, you’d find someone in a position to hire you, ask for their guidance on transitioning into a Marketing career, and express a willingness to learn. Be prepared to answer questions about why a Marketing role appeals to you. I’ve transitioned into 3 different job families without prior experience. You just need to pick things up quickly and be willing to do some bitch work to learn. Once your foot is in the door, you’re golden.
Thanks!
