Hey, I'm getting an offer today, however I have 4 on-sites scheduled with other companies, two this week and two next week. Companies like Pinterest, LinkedIn, Atlanssian. Im not confident in my ability to pass these on-sites so I don't want to turn down the offer I have guaranteed. What's a recommended way to proceed? Edit: Okay well we talked and he told me all the details of the offer. Then I said that's exciting he asked me for my start day and I said mid October. Then he said he'll send the paper work. So essentially I played that completely wrong.
Which company ?
Once your recruiter gives you the actual details of the offer, say something like “I am so excited about this offer and this would be my number one choice. I have a few more interviews I’d like to finish and then I’ll give you my decision.”
Say thanks and accept the offer verbally. Verbally accepting the offer is not equal to accepting the offer. But also say that you will need to talk to your loved ones to make a decision and push for as many days as possible
I said thanks and I'm excited then he asked me when could I start and that's where I fucked up. I should have said I need to review the offer and think but I gave him a date and now his emails all say congrats and looking forward to working with me.
Don’t worry. There’s still time to do course correction. Be honest and ask for more time. It’s better to do that than start asking for more time in wrong ways
Take your time, ask them for the offer letter. In meantime prepare for the other interviews. If any of them turn out positive then you can use that for negotiation.
Hey how was your karat with Pinterest
My karat?
The entitlement is strong with this one.
Entitled? I just said I'm not confident in passing on-sites. I'm happy to get a job but that doesn't mean I don't want to maximize what I can get.
You are making plans based on an offer you don’t have.
