I moved from the bay area roughly a year ago and I tried very hard to like the place but I really don't. What is the best way to move back to the bay? My team is not in California, I would not mind to change teams through internal transfer, just afraid to take a step towards it as it is rewards season.
Wait until August to ask.
Btw, what does MS in Sunnyvale do?
Doesn't the extra money in your pocket comfort you? I am hesitating about going to Bay area because of that. What do you miss about Bay Area?
This was one of the factors which encouraged me to move to Seattle in the first place, but after the move I realized that this place has also almost caught up to the bay, (not in terms of buying a house—which I am not looking to buy at this age, but rent, cost of living etc). I see none to little savings after moving. Another factor is weather, it’s not too rough but I don’t think I am the kind of person who will get used to the rain.
It's not the rain but the constant grey skies that suck. If you don't mind, could you share your comp before and after (or % difference) and whether or not you feel you can afford a better living standard now that you moved .
If you are a SDE, then you should be able to work remotely (from your team's perspective) from the Sunnyvale office. I know a couple of folks who do that. Just talk to your manager and skip.
