Google interviews many and I had a chance to interview twice. First time I went onsite and strongly underestimated only studied a week and failed pretty badly. This time I took a full 6 weeks to hardcore leetcode and thought the interview went well aside from 1 went really badly. I went to hc and got rejected without much feedback to go off of then was offered to interview for (wse) non engineering role. Pretty disappointed overall. I want to get into a faang as a software engineer but maybe I’m just not good enough. Any advice fellow blinders? I can’t even get a phone screen from the other faangs or nice start ups. Yoe: 2 TC: 98k
Web solutions engineer, basically developer for the business team different ladder. And I’ve heard very bad things about it on blind so decided against it
Yeah, you probably shouldn't take career advice from blind. You'd still have Google on your resume.
Agreed, gfba68. OP, don't you think it would be so much easier to transfer to SWE if you joined Google? You have all the resources and learn all the tech and be way more prepared for transfer interviews
Fair, just hadn't heard of it.
adjkfie - Why is it so important for you to work at a fang company ?
Lol for fun I guess XD, could be worse I should just be happy I have something better than nothing. Just was a pipe dream
6 weeks might have been to little, I’ve heard of 6 months
You are on a right track! You just have to keep on doing what you are doing. Practice LeetCode and white boarding. Luck plays a big part of it too.
Back in a day I spent 5 months to go from bubble-sort to leetcode medium-ish and landed msft position. So there's that. Not gonna harm you, go for it
Interesting. Are you on work visa (H1B) by any chance? How does it work when you try to break into SDE job without any previous coding experience, even if you learn the skills by leet coding, wouldn't H1B visa transfer have some previous work ex requirements?
I was on visa, yes. And I had 7 yoe by that time
But you might lose again after grinding LC for 6 months - bad interviewer or some other reason. Is it worth ?
Rinse and repeat ;) Oooor Just say screw you fang and get into non-fang company with more or less high hiring bar
That's why you interview at 10 places. Also the best way to max your TC with counters.
wse isn't worth it if you really want to be an eng. wait a year, then reapply, don't sweat it, it's not the end of all things.
What is wse?
