Hi, currently based in europe.
I know there are many big tech companies here in europe. but many arent.

How would you manage to get reached out/considered by recruiter from the US tech companies (of course ama, google, apple, but also quora, reddit, dropbox, etc)?

Can a referral help? because theres also an issue with timing of working visa.

cheers, i mean beers or bears

EDIT: BS & MS in Computer Science. Currently, Sr. engineer. CTCI & Leetcode experiences :))

Yeah dude. For HP I have co -workers that were transferred from France and Spain. Some come here for a year or two a few get sponsored to stay.
I would swap you jobs as well... 🤣
Otherwise gotta find some architect position that would include sponsorship, or go back to school in the US and get picked for research.
Lastly and only if you really want to come here at any cost find a wife and immigrate 😒

I hear lot about transfering from within a company. However, my target is more those top tier companies (stated above) :P no arrogance intended, just that's what I want.

Do you think a referral from a friend at reddit, dropbox, google would get considered for the US position?

Change your LinkedIn location to a US city you want to move to, update your summary to include desire to move

💥 watch out for that flood in your inbox

I know what you mean. Even here in EU I go through the same. I can only imagine what it would be there.

      But would those calls/emails matter?
I have worked in the US as an intern at University (didn't study there) and kept receiving those calls but 100% of them go nowhere if you're not eligible to work (visa-wise).

Get a US phone number and address to put on your resume. Otherwise most recruiters won’t bother to phone screen you unless you’re exceptional and applying for a high-level leadership role.

I believe I would get a lot of calls but they would go nowhere?..

In case of leadership it's more likely to be considered? - Wow, good & good to know.

Do you think a referral from a shiny tech company employee can help?

A referral wouldn’t help IMO. At the end of the day the workplace will be flexible or not, putting a US number and city on your resume will get you in the door, you have to negotiate the rest.

Likelihood of sponsorship is low in my opinion unless your skills are up there... We're talking perhaps master /PhD level technologist and even then there would be a need to justify to the government that they really need you etc... It's a process.
You'd have better luck to integrate a US company in Europe then transfer internally.
What are your skills and why do you want to leave Europe, is it the $ or is there something else?
I'm personally trying to go the other way given my crappy wlb.

Earning-wise I'm doing pretty well already, currently not unhappy. Around 9 years of experience. Feeling pretty good with Algo & DS & Sys design. No major leadership experience. Currently senior developer, BS & MS in Computer Science.

I am aware of WLB :/.

However, The major reason is I want to experience working in those leading tech companies and the tech environment over there (not for 3 weeks with a holiday).
