So I’ve been at amazon for 7 years and promoted a few times. Received TT and have been a PM for some of the top core Alexa devices/features. So I have been thinking about a change just to see what’s out there. I’ve applied to dozens of roles with Microsoft, Facebook, Google, Snap, and Hulu. Hulu gave me a call and said I wasn’t quite the fit they needed, which made sense after the recruiter gave me the call. Other than that it’s been miserable the past 2 months. Just getting auto responders from all the companies. I used to get interviews no problem but it seems like there’s a rut right now in Seattle or something. A recruiter friend told me that it’s been something a lot of candidates are complaining about this quarter but I’m starting to wonder if somethings wrong with my resume. What do recruiters like to see on a PM resume that would generate a phone reach out?
You should lean on your network and get referrals
I have referrals for every one except snap.
Broaden your net. You are applying only to reach schools.
OP, do you want you resume to be reviewed? Feel free to DM me.
Sounds weird. No recruiter ever reach out to you?
I think the market for PMs is saturated. I know a few awesome, experienced PMs that are looking for work in Seattle. Amazon, under my SVP at least, is also trying to reduce the ratio of PMs to dev/science.
Depends on what kind of work you have done. Have you done significant tech work/UI or Product marketing? These days even a project manager or program manager is called product manager at Amazon. So it really depends on the variety of launches you have done. Good luck in your search!
Strongly agreed. We have the most MBA PMs but few both have the tech strengths and can articulate the problems and roadmaps very well. Soft skills are critical, but after all, they are soft skills.
Dude, it has only been two months. Chill.
Is two months really not unusual? Back when I got the job at Amazon, I had competing offers. I assumed during our boom time that it would be similar now.
PM’s are a dime a dozen honestly.
Why so many openings then? There are a metric ton of PM openings across major companies.
Why leave Amazon? Look for internal transfer. Another reason could be amazon has hired too many PMs over last 3 years and they are floating around for new gigs so there is market concentration of PMs with more choice/options to the employer. #employers market
Maybe, but again, the positions aren’t getting filled. They just sit open. It’s very strange.

If you vote for Biden this year, don't complain about layoffs
Everyone wants young meat. The older you get the less demanding you are in the tech world.
I’m still pretty young. Also if you’re hiring for a principal role and want 10 years experience you won’t get a 25 year old.
Principle roles are not that many
