I applied to a dream role at Netflix and the recruiter got back to me and said he would forward my resume to the hiring manager for the team. Its been a couple days now and I havent heard back. I can only assume the hiring manager saw my resume and wasnt interested. If only I had Albertons on my resume.
Maybe there is some hope left for me after all. How long does it usually take Netflix to hire software engineers? Do they hire the first qualified person or wait for a pool of qualified applicants before making a decision?
Being ghosted by a recruiter is the worst feeling ever. And that’s why I don’t feel bad about ghosting them when they want me dearly
It’s even worse when it’s your dream role. Meanwhile, the Kinesis team at Amazon only took a min to request an interview. Clearly, the manager is trying to find replacements.
I wouldnt get worried yet. Manager might just be busy .. or it's the middle of summer when people tend to take family vacations.
Hopefully, manager will be in a better mood for interviews.
General rule of thumb is to wait a week and send a gentle follow up that re-expresses your interest and excitement in the role. Tuesday’s are the best day to send emails.
I had my resume passed to a hiring manager at a FAANG and it took them about 2 months to get back to me because the hiring manager was on vacation. I eventually got the job. So a couple days is nothing.
Congrats! The wait was definitely worth it.
I felt sorry for you until the unnecessary shade on Albertsons cashiers. I get that you were attempting a dumb joke, but given that you work at 'New' maybe you should first try to be a New cashier before you attempt to get into Netflix 😂
Haha. Well said.
Being a cashier at Albertsons would have actually been more rewarding than my last role, no joke lol. They treated people like disposable resources to make an acquisition happen. Regarding “New”, there aren’t many options when you live in hum drum middle of nowhere. Not everyone lives in a tech hub.
Hiring manager here ... There are many reasonable reasons that you wouldn’t get a response within a few weeks (OOO, competing priorities, the need for in-person discussion). If you haven’t heard back in 2 weeks then PM me and I’ll look into it.
Thanks! If I have a shot, I will gladly tell any company that makes me an exploding offer that I cannot make a decision until I hear from Netflix.
I second that. If you don’t get a response, feel free to message me too. A couple of days isn’t bad though, so don’t feel ghosted just yet
Sometimes things miss. It is ok to give a gentle reminder.
Update; I heard back from the recruiter and the manager wants to move forward with an interview.
Seriously, for couple of days?
I had told the recruiter I was actively interviewing and Netflix was among my top choices. The truth is that it’s my top choice, but I didn’t want to reveal that. Managers at Netflix take a very active role in hiring, so I can only assume he saw my resume and didn’t give the green light.
