Ghosting by HR after receiving offer letter.

Hi guys, I am getting ghosted by my recruiter from amzn, they sent me an offer letter, I accepted, they started background check around 2 weeks back, I am calling the recruiter repeatedly to check on status of background check and confirm my joining date. I am not getting any response for my calls, emails, texts. I have confirmed that the recruiter is not on vacation and still working with amzn. Has anyone suffered similarly from such companies like amzn, msft, Google etc? Location is India.

Once happened to me but at a different firm...later found out there was a hiring freeze

What if the candidate has resigned from his present org?

Bad news pal.

Recruiters = no new news means no contact. They usually don’t like hand holding.

Expedia Group onleave123 OP Oct 15, 2019

So I should wait indefinitely till they confirm my joining date or confirm my background verification?

Check your credit report to see if they have done it. You’ll see a credit inquiry. Either way, you have to wait. I wish most companies had a status system

DON’T give notice at your current company until you get confirmation from Amazon and have a start date.

Expedia Group onleave123 OP Oct 15, 2019

Doesn't offer letter and acceptance of offer letter mean confirmation? They said they're keeping the joining date flexible as per when I get relieved from my present org.

Procore Obama2024 Oct 15, 2019

Not if they aren’t returning your calls. You need to talk to someone.

Amazon CuriouMind Oct 15, 2019

Doesn’t your offer letter mention date of joining?

Expedia Group onleave123 OP Oct 15, 2019

Yes it does, but the recruiter said it's indicative and I can join as per own schedule considering my commitments with my present org.

Many background checks take few weeks. You have mentioned it has only been close to 2 weeks since BG started, so give it another week or so. In parallel, if you have friends at Amazon, ask them to find reporting manager info for the HR personnel, in case you are still ghosted by the HR contact and need to reach out to them after a week or so.

What role? Which recruiter are you trying to contact? Sourcer or Client Lead? What info do you need to know? Usually the client lead should let you know that your BGC has cleared and you're good to go from the recruiting end. Once you clear BGC then relocation packages are initiated and you move to a "prepare for hire" state so the New Hire Team will reach out a week before your start date and let you know when and where to be. In theory a week before your start date you should have already received relocation from our external partner and should be good to go. Keep in mind recruiters dont have anything to do with the onboarding process at Amazon. Its primarily handled by a team in India called the "EOB."

It's for an SDE 2 role, I just contacted my hiring manager and he is all excited me to join his team. I don't know why I am getting ghosted by the HR personnel

Because recruiters suck Source: I'm a recruiter
