Anyone done it and had a good time?
I do not recommend traveling for pleasure with kids, when they are a bit older, take fun exploring type trips. Bring kids for trips (Grand Canyon, Alaska, that kind of things), leave the kids at home when vacationing (Hawaii, Bahamas, South of France, etc.)
I've never seen happy infants or infant parents on plane to hawaii or in Hawaii. Too much. I'd only do it if only way to visit grandparents.
We took our 1 year old at the time to Au’lani (Disney resort) and it was great. You need to measure your expectation of what a “good time” means - obviously you aren’t going to go zip lining with an 8 month old strapped to you but you can hang out on the beach, try new food etc. We liked that place as it had babysitters so we could do our own thing at night.
And in terms of planes - obviously direct flights are best. You may want to splurge and get the kid their own seat (has to be a window seat) and give em an iPad. If they fuss and annoy people who cares, they’ll probably be in the same boat someday.
I was thinking of the Disney resort as well. Would be great for my Disney loving toddler
Went to Oahu for a week with my 9 month old . Traveling can be a quite challenge since it was our first time traveling with a baby but vacation is a vacation. Bring the baby, have fun and enjoy the present.
I personally feel Kauai is the best island to travel with kids or infants, especially if you're looking to de-stress. The flight isn't too bad and some resorts have more for the kids than the others.
Hawai’i is a family friendly place to travel. Yeah it’s work to take the plane ride, rent a car and generally go out with kids but you gotta take vacation. You just need to adjust how you go out to accommodate.
Yes, absolutely! Done it with a child of about the same age, loved it.
Which island were you in?
That time is was Kawai, iirc. It generally requires less driving. But I'd check all 3 islands (never been to Oahu so cannot say anything about it), and just choose whichever I get a better deal. Yes, you won't be able to do multi hour hikes etc, but still, plenty of ways to enjoy quieter vacation as well. Have a good trip!
Correct. Don’t pretend like you’re doing it for the kids. This is just mommy/daddy being selfish and torturing the kid and the rest of the people on the plane.
I'm from Oahu and fly back at least twice a year. If you can keep your kid quiet on the plane ride, go for it. Once you're on the island, there's lots of things to do for your kid. It's common but it's not accepted. Most people travel there to relax and a crying baby just makes everyone annoyed.
Imo there's not much you can do with an eight month old.
Go to the beach, swim, sight see? Damn seriously you think mommy and daddy are gonna go clubbing with a baby. Get real. People have families and raise kids there
If you can fly with 8 mo (ask your doctor), then Oahu should be fine
Why wouldn’t you be able to fly with an 8 month old?
Each one is different.. better to check with the dr.
