Good reasons for gap in employment

Hi guys, I am on h1b and got affected recently. I have an offer in another city but due to some personal reasons cant move. I am interviewing and confident that i will get a job soon in same city, but my only concern is gap in employment. 60 days grace period will soon start but new employer will know that i dont have valid h1b when they will start h1b transfer and manager might poke and ask for reasons. Any suggestions on how i can tackle this situation? TIA

Just be upfront that you got laid off. Never lie to your employer as they will than revoke your job offer.

Take the offer in the other city, then leave in a few months citing those personal reasons. Don’t ever break the 60-day limit. This puts you in jeopardy in the future - you can be asked about this when entering the country, or when applying for a visa stamp, etc. Worst case you could be deported.

You mean i should not use 60 days grace period?

No. You can use it - that is totally fine. But do not ever go beyond the 60-day limit.

Or you can say you left your job for personal reasons you can't discuss

Just say you wanted some break

Btw how would your new employer know that you are not working currently?
