Hi everyone, I have been contacted by an Etsy recruiter, the position sounds very good except for the fact that they are using PHP, the position can be remote, so I'm tempted to talk with them, but I have read many post about layoffs and organization changes, do u think that is a good time to join?
Etsy has not had layoffs since last year and since then has had a series of the most successful quarters. It's a focused time with a great staff and executive team, and the creator of php is there to complain to if you still hate it later on ^_^
This is also what the new engineering org has done since the layoffs https://twitter.com/MikeFisher_Fish/status/1040058061027766273?s=19
Etsy’s COO is leaving. People are dropping like flies.
What are you talking about? People aren’t dropping like flies, and they just did massive hiring to fill new roles. I’ve only seen maybe a handful of people leave in this quarter, more like normal industry turnover.
Also they now pay according to the going rate wherever you choose to be remote (instead of what you would be paid in Brooklyn)- not a huge issue but bothered a ton of remote folks
Etsy Eng is still Etsy. They can’t pay enough to catch up and working on things that have been solved already with automation. It’s a great place for a starting Eng, though.
