Google ~215k or stay at Vmware ~250k

L3 at Google or stay MTS at VMware.
Recruiter just said I passed hiring committee and that the offer would only be slightly higher than 200k.

I've wanted to work at Google for a long time, but I'm worried this is too big a hit to my short term TC.

Will I end up regretting accepting the Google offer?

    YoE?

Google is notorious for down levelling but isn't L3 for new grad?

I'd pick Google if it's a very good team or if you can definitely be promoted in an year. Else, just apply again when you'll be eligible for L4.

That's great to hear. The concern wasnt about ego, rather your career growth/pay.

Probably better growth at Google than VMware?

Definitely, if waiting an year would put you at L4 - isnt that better?

Doubt it. Better to join and get promoted

Google might still downlevel and give you L3 after a year

I would never take a downlevel unless they paid me more. I don’t care how “prestigious” the company is.

It's not really a lower level though. MTS at VMware is also entry level. Just a lower TC

Ask for more RSU or signing bonus to make up the difference. Otherwise no reason to take a paycut, wait another year and interview for l4 and negotiate 280k plus

If you are really mts at VMware your comp is maxed. It will not go up. Get Google in the resume and it will open doors for the future.

I was in similar situation where google offer was less than current comp. I refused. Are you willing to pay 35K to google to give you a chance and hire you at same comp that you are currently making?

Google of course. Join Google and make your career single mindedly. Starting compensation doesn't really matter in the long run.

Starting comp matters a lot in the first 2 years during which you prove yourself and comp starts catching up

170k must be senior. Google should gave you L4 at least. I know some VMware mts2 get google L4, so just ask the recruiter for L4, no hurt.

I know a lot of MTS at VMware and none of them have 170k base. Senior MTS - surely possible. But not for a mts.

VMware packages are typically lighter on RSUs with more base. The TC is what matters.

CA? Google will consider current tc as competing offer in other locations, l3 tc can be up to 270k.

Sorry. I'm op. Changed usename back. Some leetcode and first few chapters of cracking the coding interview. I never solved the hard questions though. Just some easys and mediums.

But most of the questions I got were pretty different from leetcode questions.
