I got rejected for SWE after onsite interview at Google but got a call for Eng Res program. There’s just one more round and then I would get in, but it’s a one year contract only. I am curious if anybody knows how candidates are selected for Eng Res. Is it just to increase diversity or does this mean I was pretty close to getting SWE? Also, I am an international grad student with 2 yoe, is it even worth it?
It’s a very good program* only if you can’t get a fulltime SWE position at any other good tech company.
All other things being equal. Go to Uber, stick it out for a little bit and if you don’t like it you’ll be in a good spot to join all the other transportation and AV startups if you are into that sort of thing.
They wont offer you a visa so think about that part first and foremost
Oh! Thanks! That makes it clear :) I was just curious if I was really close, interviewing for SWE again next year would be better, or is Eng Res some diversity program, in case you know?
Eng res is designed to develop you as you barely missed the mark on swe. If you interview next year your bar will be higher since you will be considered an industry hire
Hey, did you accept the EngRes offer?
Nope, I didn’t want to miss 2 H1B cycles
Do you mind if I PM?
