I talked to my Google recruiter a few weeks after the onsite and was told that the hiring manager passed on me, but she would try to shop my application to other teams. It seems like I didn’t even make it to the HC review. But it also seems like I did well enough that I can be tried for other groups. Does anyone who knows the process better can help me understand what happened? Did the hiring manager select a different candidate? Why didn’t I make it to the HC review? Was my feedback very borderline? Keep in mind my role isn’t the typical SWE so things could be different.
What role and office?
For experienced hire, the new process is team matching then HC. That's what my recruiter told me after the onsite. It took me 3 months and I spoke to 5 teams in total. Weird thing is, after the team match, I thought it's HC. But my recruiter told me I already passed HC and the next step is to submit offer for approval. Maybe my recruiter send me to HC during the long team matching waiting but didn't bother to tell me. So it's a quite long and mysterious process. Ask your recruiter to try more teams!
Yes I’ve told her to try more teams so we’ll see where that goes... I was under the impression that once you’re rejected you can’t apply again for a 12-16 months so I was so confused when I was turned down, but then still in the running somehow.
1 year freezing period means someone failed the onsite interview, not in case like you. If you talk to a hiring manager during the team match phase, it's not a fail.
They have a *very* mysterious process
