Google Hiring Manager keeps bragging about google

I had my google onsite. All the Interviews etc. Then after finishing those I had lunch with the hiring manager. Here is how the conversation went most of the time: „oh, Google is so awesome! We have free food all day! We have massages, gym, laundry service and even a hairdresser!“ We then went through the office: „Oh we have table Tennis, dart, flipper, Etc oh and do you want a snickers? Here take a snickers! We have those snack stations everywhere! Want something healthy? Take some fruits!“ and so on. So, why is he doing this? Because he is so full of himself and arrogant? Are other hiring managers at google like that too! Is that “normal“ behavior at google? I’m really a down to earth guy and do not want to work in that kind of “we are the BEST“-Kind of workplace!

He is trying to sell the company and what all it has to offer to you.

I know right, how does arrogance comes here is beyond me😑

His role in that interaction is to get you excited about working for google. Some people are better than others at doing that haha. Don’t hold it against him. Having said that, one defining quality of google is that there is definitely some degree of entitlement in the air.. doesn’t mean it’s not diverse and there are plenty of people who are just smart and humble and down to earth, but when you work in an environment so rich with perks it’s inevitable. For example when the company took the year end bonus budget traditionally used to give employees a free google device (e.g. newest nexus phone) and used it to give free laptops to low income kids there were definitely grumblings as people kind of went “where’s my free stuff.”

Sounds good to me. Thank you

I don't deny that googlers can get entitled, but free snacks and food alone are never going to make any company worth working for. Seperately, the 2016 holiday gift situation was not fairly characterized. It was far less about free stuff vs. Chromebooks for classes and much more about removing googler agency and top heavy decision making. Based on googler feedback, the following year, employees were much happier when we were able to individually donate money to charities among a pre-selected set of options.

Are you dense? He's trying to get you excited about the role so you'll want to take it if you get an offer. I hope you're better at leetcode than you are at basic logic.

No, I’m totally bad at leetcode and bombed the Interviews hard, hence I wondered why he would still brag about it.

He might not know you failed the interview.

Google doesn’t seem like a place for you.

Will do, thx

Were you already matched/targeted to a team, or was that a possible manager? At google between interviews the other interviewers are not supposed to share their results! So the manager was still doing what he is supposed to.

Research Now dapaps Apr 28, 2018

He is doing his job. May be a little too enthusiastically but doing this job nonetheless ....

Hortonworks ruJB85 Apr 28, 2018

I think you are the one who needs to chill out. He is trying to sell you the job. He probably says the same thing to all candidates.

Google Thrrrrpppt Apr 28, 2018

Please don't come here.

Dude, learn to read the company names beside people's usernames.

Google nMpd41 May 4, 2018

I guess people are different. I wouldn't have done that and it does sound silly. But I wouldn't overly worry about it.
