I had my on site today. When the host greeted me in the morning, she mentioned that the design round has been cancelled and I will have only 3 rounds today. Does this happen often? 2 rounds went really well. Both had a single fairly difficult graph problem. After discussing the brute force and optimal solutions, got into coding and completed well within the time limit to talk more about the theory and trade offs. 1 round had a nice DP problem i haven't seen before. Came up with the brute force real quick. But spent a good amount of time in coming up with the recurrence equation. Had to hand solve a bunch of smaller cases on the board to see the pattern. The interviewer also helped push me in the write direction and gave me subtle hints quite often. Eventually, did nail it with proper code. I keep hearing about google lowballing with levels. Given that I had three coding rounds, is the design round paramount in trying to grab that L4 offer? If it happens to be suboptimal, can I ask for more design rounds to prove myself? Also, all the google recruiters I've been in contact with are not based out of India. Im yet to hear from them about the whole round getting postponed shebang. Is this common? or should I be worried? YOE : 4.5 TC : 30 Competing Offer : 40 (amazon-L5)
They never told me that there would be design interview.
Have you been to on-site or is it being scheduled?
Yes I have been to on site, 3+2 round in the end they didn't offered.no design just ds algo Yoe 5yrs.
Google interview process is a bit slow. Don't worry. And design rounds are not common for L4.
That’s more scarier. Doesn’t the actual role involve designing anything? In Flipkart I had complete ownership of the backend of a customer facing service which I helped build from scratch. However the scale is barely a few hundred vendor agents.
@op what was the result, where did you join finally?
I read somewhere Google is not asking design questions below L5. Offtopic: are a lot of engineers leaving Flipkart ?
I know a few who left in 2019. But I wouldn’t categorize it as a lot.
