Got an L5 offer (10 YoE) from Google India that just about matches my current TC. I'm contemplating to join considering Google may be a better company/brand but wanted to know what's the annual % increment for the base salary and stock refreshers. Most of the info on blind is about US locations. Do the same %ages as well as refresher amounts apply for India as well (I believe they won't due to cost disparity and all). Any idea? Edit: TC offered is as below Base: 42L INR or roughly 60K USD Target Bonus: 15% Stock: 120K USD No sign on
Google is seriously low balling. my nvidia ic4 salary is almost same. I assume 120k is for 4 years.
Yes, 120k for 4 years. I don't have much leverage though to negotiate because current company isn't great and no competing offers.
Get a competing offer and then negotiate. You'll be surprised at how they compete then.
The only problem is that I've already received the offer from them and I didn't know until now about this aspect of G (had always somehow assumed that they must be the best paymasters :| ). Don't have enough time now to apply/phone screen/onsite/get competing offer and then go back to negotiate. I did ask recruiter about if I can come back after few months (read on blind that offers last for upto an year) but she said max I can have is couple of weeks.
Okay so here's some suggestion. Email a recruiter from another good company indicating that you have 2 weeks to decide and want to speed up the interview process. Sicne you've so much experience, I doubt they'll do trivial phone screens. Best case, a company like Amazon will complete the whole process and make an offer in 8 days. Once you have a competing offer, Google will negotiate and the 2 week window automatically extends. All of this considering you can contact a recruiter from another big firm right away. I think it's possible because I did something similar and it worked out.
That is lower than new grad pay in the Midwest. This is google! Can’t believe they are low balling so much
Wow. I didn't know that companies are paying that much in India. I am now seriously considering to move back to India.
What's your TC in US ? Google pays around 350k for L5 in US , right ?
Yes.
I have a friend working in Google, NBU team in India who received a total of 50L as SDE2 (30 base + 20 stocks). Though he had a matching offer too. You can consider negotiating atleast 15% salary increase (usually people negotiate atleast 15-20% and sometimes argue that getting the required salary helps take the mind off salary issues and focus on work entirely post that )
I think they are seriously lowballing. A friend of mine received an offer of 40 LPA TC with 4 YOE, and then another got 48 LPA with 4 YOE in Payments team- both at Amazon. For your YOE and level I would imagine it should be much more. I think Google is trying to take advantage of their reputation as the most preferred employer.
OP, I think you are confusing a few folks here by putting a dollar value equivalent. There doesn't exist any mapping from US to India salaries. If you are moving from US to India, companies are not expected to honor your US salary. At best, I have heard you can expect anywhere between half to a third of your US salary as your India salary. Having said that, TC of 69.5L (42L base + 21L rsu + 6.5L bonus) for 10 yoe seems a little less. Amazon or Walmart Labs might easily beat that. But then it's Google, and it can help you go places in future! You might want to trade the extra 20L TC for the brand name, and jump ship to a Uber or Walmart Labs, Nutanix or any of the dozen other unicorns in Bangalore as director of engineering. In 4 years and 2 hops you will be looking at TC around 1CR.
A Sr manager from Uber joined google as Director. It might be a bit hard for OP to join Uber as director.
Yup, definitely a low ball.
