Irvine blows. However you can find cheap 600k houses with 3 bed 2 bath in Santa Ana and have a short commute.

Office is mostly Ads teams, with small contingents from cloud and Engineering Productivity teams. Echoing what others said, the office is nice to be in but trends older and slower. If you want that relaxing socal lifestyle in Orange County it's a good place to be, but not conducive for promo past about L6.
I don't work at Google but I have been to that office and live in the area. Irvine is only a nice area to live in if you are middle aged or prefer a suburb. Compared to a larger city, there simply isn't as much to do.
