Google, Kirkland: Living in Downtown Seattle and taking the 255 bus to work? Sensible? Out of my mind?

Finally got that FANG job, Fk Yeahhhh I guess... Moving to the Pacific Northwest to work at Kirkland. I have these constraints:
- Housing cost less than 2500 USD
- No roommates, 1b1b for myself
- Commute less than 30 minutes each way (I can adjust my life around low traffic times)
- Urban area

Is it a sane idea to stay in Downtown Seattle and take the 255 bus (which appears to drop you at Google doorstep)?

Stay in Downtown Bellevue and take the 235 bus?

Looked around Kirkland and found it be a "family friendly" place, but I might get bored.

Also, are there any shuttles except the one from Fremont?

You just have to know the right people in Kirkland. There is always a party there somewhere. Get to know all the bartenders well and the bouncers. Treat them all well and the word opens up for you โ€” not just here but regionally. A lot of the owners of Seattle-area places live in Kirkland. Get to know them and you end up in limo rides to parties with celebs/sportball players.

Also Facebook Instagram, how do you bike there?? Isn't it always raining?

Dunno, from my experience on average every other day is sunny in Seattle area. When it rains, I drive or take Lyft.

Kirkland is certainly better than Bellevue. Bellevue is full of insufferable snobs.

Why? What do you suggest given my 4 constraints?

Always enjoyed living in busy urban areas in India. Feels odd to look out a window and see no human. I don't think I'll go to clubs though.

Kirkland waterfront is beautiful. I believe the 1B1B apartments are $2k/month

There are better clubs in Capitol Hill and Ballard.

Iโ€™d do it or just get a car. Donโ€™t recommend Kirk or Bellevue for single people.

Already have a car. I'm told traffic is really bad. Feasible to drive everyday??
      Jun 26

Traffic is bad at peak commuting times. If you want to get a date - Kirkland and Bellevue are bad places.

Tbh itโ€™s not that bad if you live close to the highway. Have you considered living in east Capitol Hill, close to 23rd, which you can easily take and hop on 520? Just did a quick Google Maps ETA, and itโ€™s only saying 18 mins from campus to that area (at 4pm). U District or Wallingford may also be worth checking out.

I make the drive every day. Itโ€™s not bad if you miss peak hours. I usually go from 10-7 and have very little traffic. Otherwise, gbus from Fremont or (soon) slu would work well.

Thank you for the responses everyone. I'm going to Airbnb in Kirkland for a few days, see how it goes and then decide what to do.

There are changes planned for the 255 bus, the days of the one-seat-ride from downtown Seattle to Kirkland are numbered.

Seattle downtown is becoming dangerous neighborhood. I wouldnโ€™t live there. I live in kirkland

Actually, Seattle downtown is becoming better. It was dangerous a few years ago. Now it is unsafe.

Try other neighborhoods- University district, Wallingford, Ballard, Queen Anne, Capitol Hill are some that I like. I donโ€™t like Seattle Downtown- too many weird people.

Downtown Kirkland much more interesting than dt Bellevue(which is somewhat dead at night), both are expensive anyway, why hassle with seattle
