Google L3 SWE offer, YOE: 13

Hi all, TC: 135, YOE: 13, non FAANG, but reputable company. Got L3 SWE offer @ 175, no competing offers (my mistake, I know). People who accepted such low ball offers - how did it end for you? How was your career progression? How is working as L3 if you are a senior engineer? The offer does not seem acceptable to me, and I'm 99% rejecting it. Just looking for peer validation I guess. Best

Let them know how insulting the offer is. Ask for L4, and be willing to drop out

Done;)

It's kinda standard for an L3 offer, but 13 YOE... Is it all as a SWE or something else?

All SWE, good projects and good Github profile.

Recent posts indicate Google is starting to lowball HARD. > 10YOE puts in L3 ??

Is this in the Bay Area? If yes, then you could push TC more. But as others said, if this is a SWE position, you should really be aiming for a L4 offer or even L5

Jup! No negotiation possible, which is even more insulting, so, dropping.

Did they give the first number or did you?

Interview somewhere else. But then again it’s still a bump so. Here at google not everyone is an L5 at 4 yoe. There are many L3 at 30 years old, L4 at 40 years old, and L5 at 50+ years old

Yes, in pay. But not even remotely in responsibility and freedom.

Google janest Jun 7, 2019

What other offers do you have? Just because you have 13 yoe doesnt mean that you will be an L6 or something. Can other companies give you a higher level or comp?

Marvell elkimpact Jun 7, 2019

This offer at 13yoe is too low. Is this what offered to those coming from Non FANG. What if my current TC is higher? Will they still offer the same L3?

Google janest Jun 7, 2019

Only one way to find out... but google HR is pretty good at gauging what your current tc is and how much you will accept, especially given data from ppl with similar backgrounds or even the same company

Marvell elkimpact Jun 7, 2019

Yeah if the current TC is 135k then certainly candidate would be more than willing to join at 175k especially if its Google. But it’d be interesting to see if they consider the current TC at all. I’m sure i’ll scream my current tc if someone offered me this lowball offer.

What’s your impression of how you performed in the interview?

R3n3sance OP Jun 7, 2019

3 coding great, design good (could have gone better), behavioral I'm not sure (I think this was the first interview for my interviewer, just joined G)

Marvell elkimpact Jun 7, 2019

Is this 13yoe in US or some experience outside US too? I was once lowballed by a company that cited this reason.

US and EU

That's insulting for +10yoe. Don't take it otherwise when you join and find out people do nothing make way more than you, all you wanna do is leave. Go interview Facebook. More fair in terms of pays

That is my understanding of the situation as well. This is why I'm interested how others that might have accepted such offers coped with it.

Cadence qwer09 Jun 7, 2019

Op, Is 175k base or tc? What's tc? Which domain your prior exp in? with similar yoe i think l3 is too low. Last yr when i interviewed i thought they were considering me for l5, but recruiter later told me they did interview me for L4. I thought it went well, but no offered them saying L3 would be too low.

Its TC. All experience SWE.

Cadence qwer09 Jun 7, 2019

Like, what field/type of SWE? Not all swe experiences are same.
