Seattle location, 1 yoe, offer came in at 105 base, 200 stock, no signing bonus for a tc of 170ish

This is more in tc than my current, but less base. Is it worth it to ask for a signing bonus, to help offset this difference?

I would ask for at least 120 base along with 75k signing bonus

Yeah, ask for sign-on. Tell them you have loans and cash is important to you.

I'm paranoid that they say no and then look down on me for asking, in svp reviews. A friend of mine had his offer rescinded at svp approval so maybe I'm overestimating how often that happens but still...

Pal no one will look down on you for asking, and if they do you don't want to work for them anyway.

And I know a new grad with 350k as their rsu grant. But in both cases I imagine they hat a lot of leverage, and I don't

Agreed. But zero seems out of the ordinary too, no?

I recently negotiated with Google for L3, except have 2 yoe instead of 1, and I work in MV instead of Seattle.

What you're getting seems in line with my offer, accounting for yoe and location. Still, I would push for signing bonus, maybe 20-30k. 75k seems too ridiculous.

Your offer is determined by the compensation analyst, who looks into your current job and competing offers. I've heard and experienced that Google can match, but rarely exceed, your alternative best offer.

75k is absurd. I know not to listen to Mr. Intel up there.

I guess I'm paranoid that asking about a signing bonus, even with a somewhat good reason for wanting one, will hurt and not help me. I'm afraid of not having enough leverage to even ask, and of souring a good relationship with my recruiter

I don’t think it would hurt you to ask for a sign on bonus.

Not bad for l3 Seattle. I guess you can demand 20k sign on.

Congrats on the offer! Any tips for the on-site? I'll be heading over to there pretty soon as well. Also do you have any other offers / do you think you're going to take Google's?

It will only hurt u if you're negotiating for a position that will very rapidly be filled, particularly at a small company. Also, I doubt Google, or any other big tech company for that matter, will rescind the offer, for asking. What takes 5-10 min of dialogue can net you $$$$$. Go for it. Ask for a lot, give a reason why the number you gave is reasonable, and then hope they will meet u in the middle
