So I feel that I was offered a very, very low offer for L4. I was team matched easily and my interview performance was very, very strong according to my interviewers and my recruiter. YOE: 4.5 Base: 140K Sign on: 20k Stock: 165K Performance bonus: 15% TC = 207 I have a competing offer which G matched by offering just a tad over which translated to about 215 and now the competing company is also offering that much. Is my thinking incorrect here and is this a good offer for L4 with my YOE ? Or if not, why would they be offering such low numbers for strong L4 interview performance and easy team match with multiple teams and what else can I do, other than leaving the negotiations ? What's weird is that even my recruiter mentioned to me that probably the first offer will be low like 220K. So I am not sure why the compensation analyst came up with the initial offer being lower than what my recruiter was expecting.
It’s low for L4. You should be leveled to L3. You are lucky you are getting L4 with just 4.5 years of non FANG experience.
^This
Why would I be leveled to L3 when I've performed strongly for L4's interview loop and also have more experience in those 4.5 years than more people with 4.5 years of experience? I also have a competing offer from MS for level 62 which is top band of L4. I am not sure your statement is correct.
It’s def low for L4
Troll
You are probably L3 ....
I've been interviewed since the beginning for L4 and I have been consistently told that i'll be joining as L4 during my discussions on various matters with my recruiter.
Then you are given lower L4 band.. I would say its an achievement...
I think Google's business is growing very slow. Cloud cost a lot of money but didnt gain too much market share. Search business is reaching a cap. So they cut the costs. Thats my guess.
Being at MS, would you say L4 or L62 is better career-wise ?
Interviewed both places, L63 >> L4, and L62 < L4 because L4 comp is higher for same location.
LOL that’s low I’m l3 I got 129 base and 180 stock
Thats why i told him its L3
Cadence, I am sure you can read. I specifically said this offer is for an L4 level.
I honestly mean no offence but maybe your interview performance was not as strong as you assume. I interviewed with G a month back and got an initial L4 offer that's more than yours with 2 YoE even though I applied for L3.
No offence at all! That's what I would have definitely thought. However, the recruiter told me that there was not even a negative feedback and very strong coding and analytical performance reviews, as well as strong soft-skills. I was also approached by multiple teams even before passing the HC since they were very interesting in speaking with me. There was 0 indication that the performance was sub-optimal...
Not saying that your performance was sub-optimal but performance is always subjective. It depends on how others are performing as well. I must admit that I'm really lucky to get the offer I got. Well anyway you can ask them for more stocks for sure! And a base increase as well. I managed to increase mine after asking them. All the best!
You told them your other offer and they beat it. What more do you want if you list what the other offer was
Very good point. I should not be surprised since they technically did beat the initial offer by 10k. I'll see what they come up with now since they are both at the same level at this point.
Negotiation is not typically a repeated back and forth. Be careful about slowly creeping up offers and counter. It’s open, counter offer, close. If you have new offers that give new information then that’s different than trying to play two companies only off each other
Dude, put things in perspective. "My interview performance was very, very strong" so you were able to solve 4 medium leetcode questions. Yes, it's impressive and you should be proud, but other than that, I don't undsrstand what you'd expected. They beat your counter offer and they know you'll say yes without giving out more.
I agree with you. In retrospect, I think my initial expectations were too high since once they told me L4, I obviously checked teamblind's posts about L4 compensation, which is probably a bad idea. I do hope that I made it seem that I will not join Google unless it's a worthwhile offer. It's a part of the negotiation after all. The MS offer, at least on paper, appears to be better now so I am hoping Google comes back to the table.
Don't believe what you read on blind. If I had listened to blind, I would have applied to Albertsons by now 😀 (look it up)

Can you clarify what you mean by that?
“So I feel that I was offered a very, very low offer for L4. I was team matched with a couple of teams that really liked me and my interview performance was very, very strong.”
