Location: Seattle Role : SDE Level: L4 Base : 150K Bonus: 15% Starting: 50K Stock : 335K Currently L62 at MS with 8 Yoe Current TC: 180K
I am not in the same role at Google, so I am not sure on base. L4 is the equivalent of 62-63. But from what I have seen, getting promoted is more straight forward at Google than at MSFT. I would guess that bonus is close to the same at MSFT. The big difference is going to be Stock at Google. It will start vesting right away. And on a monthly basis for that award. But is all comes down to the team and the work. I love working at Google. It has its own challenges. The food is pretty great too.
Is that for real? Heard that promotions at Google are very difficult. My promotion velocity at MS was great (4 promos in 4 years)
Below L5, the promotion is similar and Google is actually faster, because we have less levels. Starting from L5, it’s harder in Google.
It’s good offer. Not top one though. You can’t negotiate more without competing offer (I guess this is already after competing?).
L4 is the lowest level for a sde right?
Is stock vested over 4 years? What's the schedule like?
Why is the base so bad?
Seattle. It is very good for Seattle. Actually, bay area L4 Googlers can have base below $140k.
I don’t get it, is google l4 like 3-10 yoe or something? I feel like I’ve seen multiple people get l4 as low as 2-3 yoe and some with as high as 10
L4 is terminal, so google can offer anyone L4 now regardless of YOE. Also OP is L62 at msft, which isn’t senior.
L5 is terminal not L4
Looks good to me, http://levels.fyi was helpful for finding some other offers
Very similar to what I got: L4 155/335/40. But my position is Bay Area so yours is better. I only have 3.5 yoe after masters. I am trying to get an offer from Apple to see if G will negotiate. I told G I make more now but G does not negotiate based on my current pay.
Great compared to your current TC. Get competing offers and you can push by another $100k-$150k for stocks Source: my offer of $155k/$500k/$50k in Seattle

Where did you get competing offers from that helped you push it so high?
