Google L4 with 13 yoe
Google is offering me L4 at 13 yoe with 270k TC in Bay area. Work seems interesting. What is the difference between L4 and L5 in terms of bonus %, refreshers. Is this a good career move wrt TC. Would it be a bad choice getting into Google at this level with so many yoe. Current TC 260k at Amazon in Austin. I like my current work although wlb is not optimal (45-50 hours/week)
260 in Austin is great. Moving to Bay Area for only 270 would be a downgrade in effective comp. Cost of living calculators say San Jose is 50% higher than Austin and San Francisco is 90% higher.

I have a verbal offer of around 300k at non-fang liquid comp so I think I can push Google to match that. I would really be joining Google for the name and better wlb, if I do.

Dang it! Still waiting for recruiter to share why L4. Thought I did well on my interview.
Ask what the pay range is for l4. Google is known to down level. Do the math yourself on cost of living, figure out your new take home in the bay exactly. Explain to the recruiter they are giving you a pay cut and a lower title, and see what they say. They must deal with this every day. Also, having another offer is the only way to really get them to give you a significantly better offer.
40% straight tax on 270k.. welcome to Bay. Downgrade both in Pay and Grade.

260k TC in Austin is fantastic. 50 hrs/wk isn’t too bad for wlb. I’d say the grass isn’t always greener on the California side but the taxes sure are.
