Google Offer - Where to negotiate?

I recently received an offer from Google for a SWE position in MV for 120 salary/15%/$100k GSU. I have nearly 5 YoE (not in the Bay Area though :) ). I'm not sure what the level is. The offer seems low to me. Thoughts on where I should be aiming/what part of the offer is best to negotiate?

Forgot to mention a couple things: * I do have a couple of competing offers, but they're not in the bay area. * My background is a successful startup exiting via acquisition to a mid-sized tech company

Tell the recruiter that ur excited about google but the offer is lower than u expected and that u have competing offers from other companies

How much did you get from the startup exiting?

Bloomberg csthrow93 Feb 6, 2019

Shit that's low. As a new grad I'm hitting $150k total comp

Still seems low.. I work at adobe and my TC is over 180k including stock appreciation with < 2 yoe

Ya it’s low af

Is this $100k GSU/year or split over 4 years? Either way, seems low for joining Google with 5 YOE, although I recently read that they are reducing TC for new hires

This looks like an L3 offer. L3 is the level that college graduates are hired at, but it's a wide band and they frequently downlevel people with up to 7 YOE into it. The base is capped at around 130k but total comp can go up to 200+ with competing offers. This looks kind of low for someone with your background so I'd recommend showing some competing offers to get a good counter.

Seems like the current offer TC would be 120 + 18 (bonus) + 25 (RSU) = 163k. I wouldn't accept less than 200 at least with 5 YOE. You mentioned your experience is outside the bay area. Is it in the US? It should still count.

They downlevel someone with 7 YOE into L3? I mean I guess it's better than a rejection but that seems kind of ridiculous...

This offer is literally what a new grad gets

Experience outside of the US usually doesn't count

I've never lived outside the US :)

If you're currently bases in an area with few software jobs, like Midwest, I suggest you to take the offer. Being in the Bay and the reputation of Google will help you to increase your TC quickly. Worse case, just quit Google after a few months. Their RSUs have no cliff anyway
