I have 12 years of total experience which includes last 4 years as PM at a big company and rest 8 years in various engineering roles. Currently one pending offer (Director level) from a mid-tier company (50B market cap with 20k employees. Not FAANG) The Google recruiter told me that they are considering me for L6 level PM and arranging my onsite interview soon. From the comments I read on Blind, L6 level is pretty high level and almost no one gets hired at L6 PM through interview. Is that correct? Or am I just thinking too much and L6 is not out of my reach? I am worried that L6 might be above my skill level and I might not do well if they are evaluating me during interview from L6-level-lense. Should I ask recruiter to interview me for L5 instead so I have more chances of getting selected?
Congrats! They may down level you if they think you’re good but don’t meet the bar for L6. So, no worries. Prep a lot and do your best.
Agreed
Can you tell me what I can expect for technical round? I have MS in EE with 12 yoe in hardware ,semiconductors, firmware in various engineering and PM-T roles but i don't have hardcore software knowledge. Will they expect me to dive deep in software engineering fundamentals? Or high level system knowledge is OK? Note, this is for L6 PM interview.
Which PA are you interviewing for? What area is your current expertise in?
What's PA? The interview is for generic PM role if that's what you are asking. Can you tell me what I can expect for technical round? Just chill. Try your best to nail the L6 interview. They will downlevel if you don't meet the bar.
