Google TC seems low

I got an offer from Google for a Sr Android position. Was excited about the offer but compensation came back as under 200k TC. 160 cash 140 over 4 year options. Edit: Location San Francisco. Yoe 8 Current TC is 200 base + paper stock

Is Google a Tier 2 company now? 🤔

Google 🧠fry Apr 12, 2019

Yes.

Google Tdca40 Apr 12, 2019

How is that under 200k?

Life360 rmhe01 OP Apr 12, 2019

160 + 35 per in stocks per year is 195.

Google Tdca40 Apr 12, 2019

Two things. 1. Annual stock refreshers so it won’t be exactly 35k per year. 2. Target bonus percentage is 15% of base, which is 24k. In practice this will be closer to 20%.

Google always lowballs without competing offer. Trend on Blind.

What's it take to "inform" Google of this to actually get a good offer out of them? Just tell them "I'm interviewing with Facebook too"? Or do you wait and get Google's shitty offer, then show them Facebook's better offer, THEN Google finally gives a real offer..?

Oscar 🐨koala Apr 12, 2019

Some people disagree but from many of the Blind posts and else where I gathered they like to downlevel ppl and give them standard package or sometimes even lower than competitors. Now they are my obsevations. I think you have to have an actual offer from facebook. Can’t just say I am interviewing - well sure do you have an offer?

Is it $140K GSU over 4 years?

Life360 rmhe01 OP Apr 12, 2019

Yeah

AQR jgd?-861 Apr 12, 2019

Dont forget the 15% bonus, so it’s higher than 200k ;)

Life360 rmhe01 OP Apr 12, 2019

The 160 includes bonus

Salesforce shaman Apr 12, 2019

Yikes wtf that is a huge low-ball, especially considering how hard Google's interviews are.

OmegaFi jorquart Apr 12, 2019

Did you negotiate or having competing offers? If not, then Google will pay you about 10-20k less.

Life360 rmhe01 OP Apr 12, 2019

I didn't. Was not really job hunting so just did the interview on a whim. I still can negotiate.

Do you know your level? L4? Looks low on GSUs...

Life360 rmhe01 OP Apr 12, 2019

I will ask I just was told a Sr position

AQR jgd?-861 Apr 12, 2019

Is that for SWE or application engineer? What’s written on the offer letter?

Google 3/2=1 Apr 12, 2019

I am guessing you must have told them what you are currently making. I made that mistake and they matched it exactly with zero value given to my startup equity.

Life360 rmhe01 OP Apr 12, 2019

I didn't even do that but I did tell the recruiter after I got the compensation package that my current base comp was above 200k (I don't get bonuses though)

Facebook jjbros1129 Apr 12, 2019

My SDE II offer at amazon NYC recently was 270K. Although SDE2 is a really wide band, most ppl in bay area usually get 230+. Google giving 200K offer for L4 is weird. Of course, w refreshers, your TC could still go up without promo, but...
