Google TPM onsite
I am interviewing for TPM roles with Google cloud programs team and have cleared phone screens. I understand that there will be 4-5 interviews at onsite , but it will help to know what areas I need to prepare specifically for these interviews ? eg: If it is project based or behavioral? I have about 10 years experience and will I have both System design and coding rounds? The recruiter sent me a packet and that contained coding interview as well? I see from blind that few TPM interviews doesn't have coding round but two system design interviews? Can I also request the recruiter to be evaluated for both Program Manager and TPM roles. Will that affect by interviews by any chance? The recruiter reached out and have asked me if I know ppl at google. I have worked with few developer advocates at google and they can vouch/provide details around my capabilities. Will this help at onsite stage? Any other tips and tricks to successfully crack the interview? It would also help If i talk/chat to the person for additional details.
Cracking the system design interview.. is that a book?
There’s two. Grokking the System Design Interview (online course) and Cracking the PM Interview: How to land a Product Manager Job in Tech (it’s useful to PgM too). I highly advise both. (Source: passed Google interview first try)
@ Nordstorm : do you know how long one should work as TPM to get an opportunity for Google TPM role ? I recently joined as TPM and was a lead software engineer prior to this ( was leading people and several projects)
The recruiter also asked me to prepare for GCA ( general cognitive questions) . Will going through Cracking the PM interview be sufficient to answer these as well?
It depends a lot on the team. Many require a basic coding interview, some do not. Focus on processes, system design, etc. Cracking the system design interview should be read. Yes you can request PgM in addition to TPgM. Referrals from old co-workers are huge. Definitely give them all the names of people who would vouch for you.
Refferals meaning - For getting the initial interview OR After you get the interview and recruiter asks for people that have worked with you in the past?. If this option, then would recruiter be reaching out to your google contacts even prior to the interview?
