Google Team Matching - ML/CV

My recruiter has informed me that I have cleared my onsite for SW/ML (L5) roles and I have strong feedback. The next stage would be team matching. She asked me to find potential people on Google AI website whose research aligns with my work (Computer Vision) and I did send her a list. She told me that she has sent my profile to multiple teams (~30) but I haven't talked to any team yet (has been 2 weeks now since she informed me about my onsite feedback). She keeps telling me that this is the lengthiest part and takes time.

Generally how long should I wait for team matching? I have also cleared onsite at Amazon and I am expecting them to place an offer soon. When that happens then I will be in a dilemma.

Does it take this long to find a potential team match?

I have heard that, they open up more headcount in September. Be prepared to wait for a team match. Also, you haven't cleared the interview unless the hiring committee approves your hire. That will come after team matching I guess for you.

Yes I have read that. Hopefully having a good team match will help to get pass the HC

Yes, having a team match should definitely help. In your case though, you might end up asking them to go though the hiring committee even before the team match because of the Amazon situation to see if there is any point.

It took approximately a month for me to find a team I liked. Stay patient.

Reach out to someone (TL/director/manager) in the potential team yourself, via outside channel and let them know of your availability.
Team matching requires scheduling overheads, and you do want to speak to at least a few to make an informed decision. I think you can do better here.

I had spoken with 8 teams within two weeks before picking one that I had directly reached out

Between 2 days and multiple months. If you're picky and teams in your desired area don't have headcount or they have very specific needs, it can take a long time.

Now that you’ve passed the bullshit coding tests, you’re at the point where most other sane companies start their interview process—finding a team and interviewing with that team.
