I just got rejected for general swe mountain view with a referral and without even a phone screen. Is Google focusing on hiring more experienced people right now or is my resume just not good enough. 1yoe. I'm still up for software engineer tools and infrastructure though. Update: I got through in my last application for SETI.
I got an onsite recently and I have only 1.5 YOE. But they reached out to me bc I interviewed while in college FWIW
I'm really surprised. Referrals don't even guarantee a phone screen? Then what's the point?
I heard referrals only guarantee that you're resume will be read within 7 days.
I find that you need a recruiter to help you out nowadays

Google CFO confirms 'large-scale' layoffs (Apr 17)
+1. I feel you. I applied with a strong referral vouching for having worked with me. Got three rejects in three hours from me applying. I've got 5+ YOE. What gives?
Apply again in a month I guess?
