Google is getting creepy.

Oracle whatscode

Was filling out HR forms for appraisals over the intranet in firefox recently, hadn't searched a thing in the process, and have never electronically mentioned anything on the topic except on Blind via Android.

Today get Google News suggesting a job title focused article about how to deal with unfair appraisals.

My best guess is it looked at my coworkers' activity and linked it to me. I don't know what exactly is being mined for these recommendations, but am starting to feel like privacy, and even internal company information, are things of the past for users who don't go to extremes to hide themselves.

Up to this point, Google's contributions to open source and miscellaneous "good things" done by the company made me like the brand. That image is fading for me though. This kind of information being mined creates a lot of opportunity for abuse on a lot of levels.

I'm sure that the people who go extreme lengths to have their respect their privacy, are deemed suspicious by all government authorities, and are monitored by the NSA.

I once drove down a street, stopped at an intersection, and saw some dude ride on one of those single-wheeled electric skateboards. I hadn't said a word about it to anyone or via any messages or social media--not even aloud to myself. But within a day, ads for that product were everywhere. So they use some random dude's location to advertise to me.

Why do you bother filling appraisals at Oracle? They are optional, nobody reads them and they don’t affect anything.
