Ok, first it was the Inbox app; Google promised their Gmail app will have the same auto-grouping and “Today” functionality, it’s still not there. Now it’s Google Trips. This app has good rating on App Store, it’s very useful; you can use it to see your past trips, upcoming trips with boarding pass confirmations, hotel, rental reservations, etc — all in one place. It’s very simple and convenient. Why did google decide to kill it off? What is the reasoning behind this and similar decisions? Are people being laid off when such products are killed? With apps like Trips, if they can’t support it, why not open source the app and let others fork it? Anyone on the inside could share that info?
Maintaining it isn't economical, simple as that. If you thought it was a great app, consider this an opening yo recreate it and get rich.
I doubt people are interested in installing another app at this point, monopolies are trying to get users to use the phone less because of the tech backlash
If you as a company create a successful product but don’t want to maintain it, why not open source it.
Does anyone here actually use the app? They are moving all the functionality to web app anyway
I do. Certain functionality you can move to web. Like have the entire trip with city guides downloaded for offline use. Or scroll through all of your past trips.
I'm still mad about inbox
I'm still salty about Reader getting killed off.
Any Googlers?
It's not dead. Just the app
Finance.google.com was the best, they turned the UI to shit now
Yup
Yup and yup. More ads though, so that's good
