I was recently extended an offer from Google and chose to accept. However I did want to take a few months in between jobs to travel and visit family, but when asking the recruiter, she said it was best for me to start as soon as possible - immediately after quitting my current job. She did later say that I could discuss the start date directly with my hiring manager. From all the posts on blind, it seems that start dates with Google are really flexible. Do you guys recommend asking my new manager for a later start date? I don’t want to come off as unreliable before the job starts. I also have already signed the official offer letter - I don’t think I negotiated this properly as the recruiter wouldn’t let me put a later date.
What is the offer?
For swe l3
They are usually fine with pushing out the start date. Although if you started before Dec 31, you are able to qualify for stock refresh next year... otherwise you need to wait for the following year
Thanks for the advice! I plan on emailing the manager regarding the situation
You should have ideally asked about this before accepting the offer or even during team matching. Did you discuss with your manager about potential start date before? It sounds like the recruiter might have communicated the expected start date with your manager.
+1 should have discussed at team matching.
Do you think it’s even worth asking the hiring manager about now.
