Google no longer believes in free speech

Leaked google slide deck shows that google wants to be the “good censor” and filter content that they deem to be wrong-think.

This is some Orwellian shit. What happened to “don’t be evil”?

The problem is you think these for profit websites are "a free and open internet". Nope. Just because you treat Google/FB/YouTube like a free and open space doesn't mean it is nor do they have any duty to give you one. In fact the only reason you use Google is because they do a great job filtering information for you. If you don't like that there are other alternatives. They're a private company they can do as they please.

It's called the free market for a reason. You're free to take your business elsewhere instead of taking some type of moral high ground because they don't want to serve exactly what you want.

Yes. It’s a free market. And I’m 100% against the idea that the government should tell google/FB/Twitter what to do.

But I can also have the critique that these organizations are not about providing a platform that allows diverse thought when it’s pretty clear that they want to censor conservative view points.

The above two points are not mutually exclusive. The fact that you seem to be defending the decision to become a “good censor” shows that you care more about protecting your ideology then you do about challenging it.

Reality has a liberal bias. Stop crying for a safe space. Just make your own and compete. If something is inaccurate I don't care if it doesn't get represented.

I hope you're not okay with the data provided by Cambridge Analytica, because it was fairly accurate. You're not suggesting 'safe spaces,' but what creates 'echo chambers' like radio. Strangely, 'conservatives' are the ones known for lesser regulation of businesses and free markets. Watch where your argument leads.

Does anyone ACTUALLY think that Google should allow everything?

    - Pedophiles
    - Child porn
    - Terrorists
    - Sex traffickers (the violent kind)
    - Hate speech
    - Bullying private individuals (doxxing)

You're all ok with all that?

      OP
You’re an idiot. No one is upset that google filters child porn, pedophiles, sex traffickers, etc.

But notice how you have “hate speech” listed there. 🤔 hmmm. That’s a pretty vague item. The rest of your list is very specific but “hate speech” is not well defined. Especially when the left labels everything conservatives say as “hate speech”

By the way. All he items you listed except “hate speech” are already filtered by most platforms, not just google. But I like how you sneak in “hate speech” into this list to make a vague concept that the left constantly changes as morally equivalent to child porn.

      No Filter!

those things are still illegal, and google is not permitting those activities, its just providing urls.

Silkroad etc will always exist in one form or another, the world is a wild place and www is the WorldWideWeb. One cannot simply filter the world to their liking, this will not alter reality instead it will only alter the perception of reality. For a people to govern themselves they must witness an unfiltered reality, and that is in essence what the United States is truly about.

If it is legally considered assault, they should report it to the authorities.
      Oct 12, 2018
    • Microsoft J0lyr0ger
Assault in speech is when a threat is made, and specifically a threat that promises bodily harm or other quantifiable damages. Else it is protected, people are allowed to spread their opinions.

A person can be gay and engage in sod***, and another person or government cannot force them from making that choice.

      This is respect for freedom.

Likewise a person can publicly denounce sod***, or share their negative opinions about it or call those who support it “queer, f@**** etc.

A person has the freedom to make up their own mind, and voice that opinion..

      This is respect for freedom.

If both parties want continued freedom they must both understand that freedom goes both ways.

well I don't agree with censoring but spewing hate is not desirable but who can arbitrate that is the problem. As for voting for Trump you idiots knew very well who he was and yet chose him among the Republicans candidates. Once he was your nominee you blamed on Hillary for voting him.
Ever thought of just being honest like I just hate liberals and would choose Trump just to see the meltdown? Quit giving excuse of why you are choosing Trump. There were many capable Republicans.
      Oct 12, 2018
    • Intel lpie613
That’s exactly why Trump won. Haven’t heard anyone say differently. It was the middle finger to 50 years of listening to hypocritical super woke liberals having a superiority complex. I will say Trump is pretty f’ing intuitive about why people hate liberals: media bias they are oblivious to, the mob mentality even though we pretend we are for the bill of rights, we love illegal immigrants more than we love executing laws as written, and general PC culture (good study out of Harvard yesterday that 80% of the people in the middle hate PC culture.)

I don’t understand - all it says is you need a permit to protest on public ground. I would also need a permit to throw a party on public ground.
      Oct 12, 2018
    • The 1A gives you the right to free speech in public spaces. That isn’t contingent on a permit
      Oct 12, 2018
    • Intel lpie613
So I can throw parties whenever I want on public ground?

The limitations are only when it presents a public nuisance to the rest of the citizenry. If I take a shit on your front step and call it free speech, it’s still against the rules. None of the freedoms are absolute.
      Oct 12, 2018
    • Amazon 7355608
Yes you can have a party in a park.

If you want open liquor and a BBQ you may need permits but you can assemble in a park with your friends. Absolutely.

And if you and your friends want to wave political signs and chant slogans you absolutely can do that.

The fact that you want to limit the right of the people to assemble in public by having some bureaucracy decide when and where they can do so is offensive to democracy.
