I just passed Google HC and now they are revewing the offer. Recruiter reached out and asked for my expectation and I gave the numbers that I think is really reasonable compared to my current package (only 10-20% increase) . However the recruiter indicates it is difficult to meet the numbers and they cannot share any info of the offer to me until it is finally approved. If the numbers turn out to be bad, how to negotiate? I didn’t apply for other jobs as I am quite comfortable with my current role. Thanks!
1. Recruiters will always default to saying the numbers will be difficult to work with, needs to go through multiple stages of approval, make you feel like you're being greedy, blah blah blah. It's a negotiation tactic. 2. Then again, it's Google...they tend to lowball. Try to get competing offers to strengthen your negotiation. 3. You have to convince them that you are worth more than the offer. My verbal offer was 175k at Google L3 and I negotiated up to 210k without competing offers.
How?
U just need a convincing argument, like I mentioned researching salaries, losing rsu, losing bonus, etc.
I recently finalized my offer. Expect to be low-balled hard and without competing offer, it feels impossible to make Google to go up. Their initial offer was below my current TC and they didn't care. My recommendation is get a good competing offer. I had few competing offers and they only budged once I showed them my offer letter. They more than doubled RSUs in couple hours of presenting other offer. This after claiming my initial offer was a good one and numbers I was asking for was impossible. Google was the only company that was asking me to show offer letter and low-balling so hard. All the best with your offer.
Did they ask for the competing offer to be shown ?
Do they consider current TC also or just competing offers? If current TC is high, asking 10-20% hike is reasonable, I believe.
Which office?
At what point in the negotiation process would they rescind the offer because of candidate demanding salary that cannot be met. Or would they provide lower final offer, take it or leave it ?
I got call from recruiter after more than a week and was told they couldn’t make an offer. They didn’t disclose any interview feedback or level decision and just made up some unrelated excuses. I believe the real reason behind it is they cannot meet my expected number.
Thumb rule: never share your numbers first!
I don’t want to share but they keep asking for it. I don’t have much experience to deal with recruiters. In case of this what can I do?
