I am negotiating a Google SWE offer in California. How should I continue this negotiation? Conversation so far: 1. I told the recruiter my salary expectations 2. Recruiter said they couldn't match it. Recruiter gave me numbers 3. I told the recruiter my current compensation. Asked that it be matched. 4. Recruiter said legally Google can't ask or use current compensation due to CA law. 5. I told the recruiter I can voluntarily give that information. 6. Recruiter said they can't use it. Asks for my current offers. 7. I told the recruiter I have a faculty offer, as well as interviews over the next few weeks, and that I am disappointed that Google can't match. 8. Recruiter said they would double check and asks when I get closer to the offer stage with other companies. . 9. I told the recruiter I will sign if Google beats Salesforce's offer. 10. Recruiter said she will ask for a compensation increase again. Compensation team asks for confirmation if I will be getting any other offers from other companies, before looking into next steps. "Are you [me] able to provide that info?" How do I respond? What do I do next? My current thought is "No, I cannot provide that info." Thanks everyone.
Ask them politely to stop playing games and offer you a competitive tc for your level. Question them as to why they need other offers to validate your worth when you clearly have interviewed with them and they know your skills.
Name checks out
Thanks!
Getting paid more than your current TC shouldn’t be this hard.
That’s what I initially assumed.
Current TC?
Can you share what is your current TC that they won’t match?
I’ve been hearing that Google is lowballing a lot recently.
Meh sounds aa lot like chicken and egg problem. The most powerful things in negotiations are have options and be willing to walk away. Also comp expectations should be discussed before hand. Why would you waste your time if they re going to give you less $$ than currently making
To gain interviewexperience.
You don't have to tell them anything other than what you want. You must have an minimum point below which you will absolutely walk away and a higher anchor point (the latter is what you tell to recruiter as your expectation) and negotiate in between.
Say you have an offer from your current company for your current compensation
This. 🤣
Tried this already
