Google or Facebook for a new grad?

I did an internship at facebook this summer and got a return offer for full-time. I also recently got a full-time offer from Google. Compensation for both should be comparable. What are the pros and cons of picking each?

Doesn't fb give you that sweet return bonus?

Have not received official compensation from Google yet, but they said they would probably match or exceed my offer from Facebook.

Even if it matches, I actually find their equity to be disadvantageous. Since their stock is worth far more, you’ll receive far less shares. This means you’ll have less flexibility when selling and less room for growth. If you have $150k from FB, that’s 882 shares ($170 stock price) and it would only be 153 GSUs ($977 stock price). I much prefer the flexibility.

You won't go wrong with either. Both great companies to work for.

I’m a former googler and from what I can tell is you have far less freedom in choosing which team you’ll start with at google now that they align you with a PA. I chose google initially because i was unsure about Bootcamp at FB and I regret it everyday. Bootcamp gave me a better perspective into my actual work than googles allocation process. It’s far easier to make impact here too. Google is getting a too big for their britches.

Return intern here. If you liked your internship I think FB is the obvious choice.

Food is better at fb ;)

First off: negotiate. Second off Facebook you'll have more of a chance to work on impactful things

Looks like Facebook is a nice place to work..

Lot of flexibility and responsibility still. Ocasional problems with WLB

Facebook gives you the option to choose your team from day 1. If everything else is similar... that should tip the scales?

Really? What if you wanna learn it but don't have the skills?

If you don't know shit about ml, ai, or hardware don't expect to get in those teams. But basically everything else is fair game. They'll put you in at least 4 weeks of classes so, for example, you want to develop for ios or Android after joining FB with no prior experience that's fine. Followed by a couple weeks of just trying to find a team and doing small amounts of work for them to show you can do it essentially. FB gives engineers lots of flexibility and power so you could work on iOS one year and Oculus the next.
