I just passed the HC today (at T4 think). During the call to tell me my recruiter asked for salary requirements. TBH, I didn't think Google asked that question so I wasn't prepared. I thought Google's usual MO was to put the offer together first based on interview performance and competing offers. So, should I just look over the numbers here and on levels.fyi and take something reasonable? Am I going to get rejected if I say something too high? Note: I am no longer at BB, in case that affects your answers. It's a long story, but I left three months ago and the place I went turned out to be a mistake. Relevant, though, is that I am currently a team lead with two reports. Experience: 16 years (total eng.)/10 years (software eng.) TC: $241k, rising to $300k in four years (weird stock ramp)
Ask for more than you want. So if you want 300, ask for 330. Etc etc. Probably won't get rejected if you ask too high, although there is the possibility of SVP that is pretty low.
SVP?
Another round of approval past HC and team match. SVP approves your package and signs your offer letter. If it's an outlier in some way or they think you're not worth it, it's possible to get a reject. But most cases are fine.
