Google v/s Facebook offer

I just had a Facebook on-site and the interview went amazing. I’m expecting a strong offer from Facebook. Facebook said the min time they to make an offer is one week. On the other hand, I’ve a google offer deadline of this Friday. Google Rec isn’t ready to push the deadline.
Google- L3, 191K, 211K first year, Sunnyvale
Facebook- New York
Amazon- 170K, Seattle
Cur TC- 75K
2 YOE

Location is not an issue. I’m looking for a better TC and company good for overall growth in the long run.

Any input would be appreciated.

Sure. I was contacted by Goog recruiter yesterday, since I am so soo unprepared i set a date 3 months out from now. I am currently 110 questions in LC mostly Amazon tagged since i was focussing on Amazon. I will ping you if I have any specific questions come up while prepping for Fb and Google ! Thanks

Actually, I was in the exact same situation. Although I’d say 110 LC is a really good start. I’d also recommend solve a lot of med compared to easy and hard. Sure, You’re welcome!

It’s “Data structures and Algorithms Bootcamp” by. “Jonathan Rasmussen”. It’s a good courses if you already kinda know the concepts and need to revise :)

The Google deadline is bs. Tell them firmly you need more time to evaluate all options. I accepted my Google offer a month after I got it. It's a recruiter tactic to limit your bargaining position.

Read the section on exploding offers here (and everything else as well) https://haseebq.com/my-ten-rules-for-negotiating-a-job-offer/. With Google counter offers are super important since the initial offer is usually a lowball. I was able to bump my offer by 100k with a strong counter. So definitely try your best to get more time.

I was lucky since the recruiter was a mutual friend, so he was extra nice. Also you are a strong candidate with Google and FB offers, so it shouldn't be hard to get other comparable offers if one falls through.

PS TC doesn't matter, honestly, at all. Join the team you enjoy most in the location you like just honestly never thought someone would choose the middle of nowhere over one of the best cities in the world.

I'd take Sunnyvale over nyc in a heartbeat. The weather alone seals the deal. Talk to then Google rep - you're only looking for a few days - they should accommodate

They aren’t willing to accommodate it cuz I feel like they don’t wanna match facebooks offer :/

Do you know the level you're interviewing for at FB?
You may get E4 offer at FB. If so, it's not the same league.

I think you can try to extend google offer deadline
    May 7 5
    • CenturyLink ml7hsg6
      OP
They’re not helping me extend it. They want me to make a decision before I get Facebook offer
      May 7
    • Amazon rahrahh
It’s probably a bluff OP. They want to seal the deal without having to get into a bidding war with FB. I’d say if you stick to your guns theres an 80% chance they extend. Moreover, bear in mind that L3 headcount is super low rn. Lots of ppl posting about having application closed. You might get lucky and a hiring manager might love your resume and attitude, but keep your eyes wide open
      May 8
    • CenturyLink ml7hsg6
      OP
Completely agree with ya. Recruiter raised the concern of low L3 headcount as well. It’s been about 2 weeks since I got team matched and rec said he cannot wait any longer and will start looking at other candidates soon. This is why I’m being a little skeptical about not accepting it before the deadline. They might just start looking at other candidates. What do you think?
      May 8
    • Amazon rahrahh
I was told the exact same thing by recruiter. In my case, I had other phone screens I wanted to take. Because of the specifics of my case (things aren’t going well for me at Amazon, I was only in the phone screen stage at those places, and I got placed in a city I’m excited about), I tossed in the towel and accepted it. It’s a poker game. I’d try to lean on FB hard. This could be the difference of 30-50k a year though
      May 8
    • CenturyLink ml7hsg6
      OP
Yea, it could be easily a difference of 30-50K. That’s the reason I wanna wait for FB and they don’t. Rec said we’d talk later in the week so I will try to push for another couple days.

Why not on Friday tell Google that you have an offer from Amazon/FB ( if you get that verbally) and if they can improve on your current offer.

Its valid for a year but team matching needs to happen again and that’s pretty hard

You can present a deadline to fb and have them speed up the offer. But given the lack of senority it is unlikely they will rush. Still worth a try though
