Google vs Facebook offer evaluate
Got offer from Google L3 Base - 115k Rsu - 100k for 4 years Facebook for L4 integrity analyst (digital rights team) Base - 120k Rsu - 75k/ 4 yrs Rsu is 75k for 4 years. Role wise I am more interested in fb as it is more data science related. Please evaluate the offer. Already told FB about google offer. The numbers are the increased comp from FB. Still there is some delta. Do you think FB can increase more? Or shld I go with Google? Current experience - 4 years
You are towards the beginning of your career by the sounds, so choose the role you’ll really dig into, the one which will give you the best experience to grow and progress. Don’t micro optimize for 5k or so a year, it’s impossible to know what stocks will do, and both companies are great. Go with the best team / position :)
Thank you for replying. The team is new in Facebook and I am more interested as the team is small and role is good. Do you think I can ask for more 10k to match the delta?
It’s fair to mention that you have a competing offer, and that you expect them to match it. They will never renege an offer if you ask for 10k more, that’s not an absurd counter. But what @tgq said is sound advice, go with the role you will grow most into, whether they matched your competing offer or not.
The base has minimal difference while the RSU at google will make a better impact. But in the end, it’s the work culture that matters most. Join the team which you think you’d be happy working with.
4 years of experience and hired in as a L3 says something too...not saying he’s bad but just saying it might not be a fair comparison.
It's not a software developer role
You already asked fb to counter after google. Going back again is going to start damaging your relationship with your manager.
And offers are extremely fair for these levels for nontech. L3 offer is spot on for google. I have seen higher numbers for people ops but they came from way better companies like mckinsey vs first republic
What’s the role in google? Facebook role is not what u think it is. Many people get fooled by the title thinking they will be training models and doing cool ML. Does not happen. Only swe ml engineers do that.
This is true! I work with people in a similar role to integrity analysts. You will be writing 300 line CASE WHEN sql queries to answer business questions and making PowerPoints. Will not be Data science you will not be doing ML or statistics.
These offers are extremely fair and agree with gORM11 that it’s potentially damaging the relationship with your potential manager.
