Google: gTech org (TSC), L6, IC. No team match remaining, all complete except hiring packet approval. TC: $389k + $40k sign on (includes 20% bonus in TC) Pros: Resume++, L6, huge company with easy transfers between teams (relative to other companies), great perks. Cons: Slightly less TC, gTech is meh, in MTV but not in the plex, TSC work might get annoying LI: SWE Manager, great team. Offer is in hand. TC: $406k + $75k sign on (includes 15% bonus in TC) Pros: I am passionate about the project, team is awesome, better TC, better aligned with my personal values Cons: Slightly worse name, lower level (?), MS influence, company in an awkward time Base is within $10k between them. LI is higher but not enough to matter. I'm really struggling. Obviously declining a G L6 offer is a big decision. But I'm way more fired up about the stuff my team would work on at LI. Currently: Eng Manager ~10 yoe as IC, ~4 yoe as manager 310k TC
What is TSC ?
Time Stamp Counter. It counts cycles in x86 processors. It has been used for cache side-channel attacks, thus the potential for annoyance.
$389 seems low for google L6?
Take LinkedIn now. Google offer is generally valid for one year that you can take up later if you wish.
Don’t listen. Not true.
How long are Google offers valid for then?
Google will match LinkedIn offer easily. All I can say is, L6 and above are pretty sweet roles
Go by what will build you even more, enthusiasm in what you do will be a great driver, ignore the names, focus on the problems you think you’ll be solving and your growth ...
L6 is staff in Google. I am sure that is mapped above staff at Linkedin. So if we assume engineering managers are at the same level as staff at Linkedin. It would be a downlevel for you. First time I am hearing Google offering a better level 😃
This is an extremely low L6 offer.
