Feel extremely lucky to be in this position, having had a rich history of rejections in the past. Thanks to fellow blinders for shaping how to think about interviews, rejections, offers etc. This community rocks.

Where would you go? Please feel free to share reasons as comments as well, or words of warning about companies you feel strongly against. Any information helps and is appreciated.

Offers (~4 yoe, L4 SWE, SF and MTV)
Base/equity/bonus
1) Airbnb : 175k/430k/31k
2) Uber: 160k/390k/50k
3) Google: 160k/410k/50k
4) Lyft: 170k/600k/20k

      Prep strategy:
      Algos:
      1) start with basic algos - go over college lecture notes, implement basic ds by yourself- trees, heap, bfs etc
      2) do cracking the coding interview, and elements of programming interviews. I didn't do these completely though.
      3) leetcode problems from companies you're interviewing at
      4) pray

      System design:
      1) grokking the system design interview
      2) YouTube videos on problems from (1) to cover gaps
      3) try reading blogs - I didn't find these to be as focused and helpful though

Honestly that sucks. The fallacy is most culture depends on team and you have most impact by your HM on the quality of work you do. I have been through startups which are known for notoriously WLB but the quality of work was something that would talk for years. So, it's not that bad with intuition but trust your gut in picking the team and managers than anything else. If you feel that the conv was bad/ questions posed during interviews, than you should put those companies in back burner.

The unanimous suggestion to Google is because of th rich heritage of pulling something out of thin air for decades. All the other companies do but not at the scale of Google.

How is Airbnb at the bottom? They are a pre-IPO company remember?
This is your chance to become a millionaire.

      Paper money vs real money.
      And, less interesting engineering problems.

Pre-IPO doesn't mean much. Ask the Uber and Lyft guys who joined pre-IPO in the past 3 years.

Zoom was at a 9B valuation at IPO and went up to 27B market cap. 3x returns don't sound too bad

Airbnb is a profit making monopoly. Very dissimilar from Lyft and Uber

Less interesting problems is the main problem

^ Exactly. And unlike Uber and Lyft, Airbnb should be profitable।

OP, I wouldn't try to base your decision on appreciation of AirBnB equity. For every Zoom, there's a Palantir, or a Snap.
Perhaps focus on more certain variables, like work,
      TC excluding appreciation, manager,

    Google or Lyft.

Imagine your inbox has an email with the subject, "Sorry, job offer rescinded". It's either from your Google recruiter, or from your Lyft recruiter. Which one would make you sadder?

Congratulations OP. Those are some great offers. How were the Google L4 interviews? LC Medium/Hard? Did you have any System Design?

Asking cos I have about the same YOE but got L3 despite having mostly positive feedback (only 1 interview was a lean no hire)

Would recommend Airbnb cos they are a Pre-IPO company

No they look absolutely great to me. Just wondering why they don’t match Lyft’s equity? It’s already public traded anyway. Is there a reason people tend to undervalue $LYFT to, say $UBER or G?

Don’t join Google as L4, you’ll find yourself lining for promo and work with a bunch of L5s with 3 yoe

    • Snapchat 🦄Unicorn
What do you mean by “lining for promo”?
      Jun 14
    • Google / Eng tnxU67
Meaning you’ll need to wait for other L4s joining before you to promote first. No matter how badass you are
      Jun 14
    • Snapchat 🦄Unicorn
So YOE before joining is not taken into account??
      Jun 14
    • Google / Eng tnxU67
There is no hard rule between YOE and level at Google. For low levels, It all depends on how many people joined before you that want to promote.

It’s REALLY team dependent. Probably more than company dependent. Best company in the world sucks if your team sucks. So-so company can be huge opportunity if you love your team and are doing valuable work while learning a lot.
