Got Amazon offer - Worth to take Microsoft interview?

Oct 2 44 Comments

Hi guys,

I got an offer from Amazon Seattle SDE I with 108/24, 20/70k (new grad package) with almost 2 YOE.

Microsoft recruiter sent me a 60-min OA to do within 2 days. (hiring event)

is it worth to do it? Will Microsoft beat Amazon’s TC/level?

i have seen many people on Blind/LC got rejected even they finished the OA perfectly(?!)

thank you.

TC: 80K

Just do it, and yes MS can beat Amazon. Competing offers are always good.

While we pay low in general, we should be able to beat this offer.

Thanks. How higher should I expect?

For 2 YOE, I’d say TC of $160k+. Also remember, MSFT has better benefits than Amazon.

Thats what i heard. What about technology or career growth? Must i use only c# then?

    • Microsoft MwzK56
C# for most of the company, yes. Career growth is team/manager dependent. Good internal mobility, stable work environment etc

      Thanks for the input

they did not finish OA “perfectly”.
    there were more optimal solutions

I thought OA only to test right or wrong test cases? :(
      Oct 2
    • Amazon lforkdj
it did not have test cases, a human will read the code

    • OP
I see codility result example platform (Ms uses this). There’s test cases to check.

I would thing an MS offer would be higher, probably worth taking the interview

I am in the same situation right now. Good to see I am not the only one confused about it, lol. Is the MS event for the Information Protection org?

No, I got an offer with TC ~160K.
OP, it was 60 minutes on Codility. Everything looked new. Two of them were super easy like Fizz Buzz. The last one was probably a LC Easy/Medium. Haven't seen it before though.

      Nice
      Thanks for the heads up.
So you already got an offer? How was the time line?

Definitely take the MS interview. Little bird told me they're making big offers to students to compete right now.

But this is hiring event for 2yoe people only (azure) :( what level or tc should i expect?
      Oct 2
    • Microsoft hotsteppa
2 yoe could land you a Lvl60 or 61 at the max, unless you prior experience is at a good level from another company. Lvl59 is a fresh grad offer and it sucks

    • OP
      I see. Hope I can get 60.
Do they ask System design at hiring event? Or just LC?
      Oct 2
    • Microsoft hotsteppa
Possibly of both to be honest

      I see, thanks so muh

How did you end up getting new grad offer after 2 YOE?
    You bombed the interview?

    • OP
      I applied for “2019 SDE” position. I didn’t know either 🥺

I finished coding 10mins earlier each round

Tell them in negotiation that you are industry hire. Literally this offer is given to university candidates after OA - > 1 virtual Skype round interview - > Offer.
However, competing offer is your best chance to negotiate. They will not budge without that. Good luck for Microsoft

    • OP
Right. Amazon didn’t budge... i am hoping for MS to give me a better TC. Thanks for the advice

@OP: Are you the guy that spent 6 months doing LC 4 hours a day to land FAANG offers? Or is that another t-mobile guy. How much LC did you do?

I feel like a new grad offer is insulting given your yoe. Do you have other interviews lined up other than MSFT?

My new grad SDE package at Microsoft is 110k base/150k stock/50k signing. Stock is vested 25% at 0.5, 1.5, 2.5, 3.5 years.

    I'm a returning intern though

    • OP
Double stock and better vest schedule than amazon. I have 2 yoe not sure if i can get higher
      Oct 2
    • Microsoft aopq
Better to go with the new grad route with Microsoft if you have the choice. I heard they low-ball industry hires
      Oct 2
    • OP
I see. But this is industry hire w 2yoe. Hiring event
