Joining Amazon as SDE 1, the manager who hired me left within 2 weeks after I joined, new manager came after 2 months. He said he was not satisfied with my performance when I joined around 4 month and gave me a plan with multiple tasks to improve - at that time I didn’t know it was dev list and he didn’t tell me either. Even I finished all the deliveries in that plan, he still decided to put me in Pivot or I leave voluntarily, I joined less than 6 months. I’m still waiting for the result of my H1B. Seems my manager really want to to leave, but would like to help me get the H1B. Manager said I cannot switch team within Amazon, why is that? Any advice? Anyone has experience that got Pivot/PIP waiting for H1B?
You’re SOL sadly
I don't work at Amazon but from my own experience if you are in a performance plan you can't switch teams. Best to do what you can to exceed those targets in the plan but if they are hell bent on removing you then invest your time into getting another job. Since you will have a few months at Amazon under your belt you shouldn't have too much trouble finding work elsewhere.
Probably I guess so. I think I don’t have chance to pass the plan since my manager don’t want me to be here. I actually feel nervous and worried about job hunting, I haven’t reviewed and practiced since I join Amazon.
Well, get to it then. It shouldn't take much to get back up to speed. Just be respectful and play by the rules until you are ready to make your move. It is real easy for this manager to pick at the little things so you don't want to give them reason to
I was fcuked when my i-140 was to be filed. Had to leave and retry in new company. Always LC and interview 365 days. Work in office for 4 hours only.
Shit tier managers like this are part or the Amazon package.
I’m so surprised on this result.
Saw this in the past - hope it helps... [Blind] Check out this post! Just won my Amazon Pivot / PIP appeal - tips inside (part 2) (HR Issues) https://us.teamblind.com/s/G82h6vUh
Thank you! I’ll check that. But I think it’s very hard
Sorry you got a freaking jerk as a manager
Well, I don’t want to think like it’s personal on me, I think he just wants a better person to replace me, he said this to me, well not exactly same words but this meaning.
The fact that it is not personal doesnt mean he is not a jerk. Managers optimizing for their damn metrics and personal success makes me want to slap them
Mgr change is the top most root cause of managing out. In most cases, stick with the mgr who interviewed you.
Ohhh I didn’t know that, such a rookie in working.
That's the main job of first line manager at Amazon, ask yourself who else can be PIP instead of you. You can workout a timeline with the manager. If they ask you to do any shitty work after that make sure to look them deep in the eye and ask why do they want to make a scene.
Sorry I just saw your post! I don’t think there’s “who else”, since I’m the only 1 SDE1 in that team, with urgent milestones and goals, they don’t have time or patience to guide and train me, I guess.
Waiting for your H1B result? Was your H1B picked in lottery?
Yes, I got lottery and approved, waiting for physical notice now.
Cool. Congrats. Hope you find a job somewhere soon
Amazon sounds like a dystopian future
Except in the present
Theyre probably trying to move people to the big building in india they recently unveiled, for cheap. This way they get back the sign on bonus too and rehire.
