Currently working in retail. It was boring for a while and recently got on the right track and started to have some interesting projects. Capital One offers Data Analyst position in their People Analytics team. Anyone knows if it is interesting? If that is a good career move? In data field, C1 has a good name on resume, but not sure if People Analytics experience can help with future data career. I do not know anything about people analytics, was originally expecting someting more finance/card related.

I get about 5 offers from them per month. All with different envelope designs.

Please don’t do it. C1 will kill anything and everything you have inside in terms of self worth, motivation and creativity. Just ask your hiring manager to explain how performance management works and what is stack ranking. In terms of the actual work, it will most likely also not be in line with what you think the tech company does. Look for something else and thank us later.

It's better than retail. Take it, post your resume after 6 months and parlay it into something better. If you're here on Blind you're smart enough to do that

Ppl analytics is a good space to be in, many orga are starting to do it but many still very rudimentary and the bars for ds for people analytics are generally alot lower than anything else and pay still the same

The work is interesting. That team has about 100 people. Will likely be better than what you are doing now. Horizontal movement is common across the company.

Re: performance mgmt comments: we are a pay for performance company. The perf mgmt framework itself is good IMHO but the implementation sometimes leaves a bit to be desired. If you do solid+ work you’ll be fine.

Do you know if McLean office or Richmond office has more People Analytics team members? Do both locations report to the same head?

Don’t know about Richmond va McLean split. There would be a single head.

      That's a fat fucking lie.
The stack ranking metric for performance reviews is whoever's best at schmoozing their management

Do it. Every company has ups and downs. It will look good on your resume and then move on if you aren’t happy after 1-1.5 years.

Capital One is good. Overall great work life balance of 40-50 hours. You can remote work at least two times a week and the pay is pretty solid in Richmond or McLean. Overall it feels like a good place to work. As with anyplace there are good and bad management. However you can change jobs in 9 months if you want to
