I got terminated today from Amazon because of so called work performance issues. They had setup this whole facade of the appeal panel and pivot plan process when my manager had already made up her mind about letting me go Is that seriously gonna impact my career to a point where I wont be able to find another job? Have been with Amazon for about 1.5 years, can some one help over how do I answer the question when this comes up in the interviews? I dont wanna give an impression that I'm not worthy of anything to my new employer, thank you in advance

Google doing more layoffs, restructuring including country moves
You can start by not prepending everything with "so called", acceptance is the first step and if another company wanted to know about it and you kept saying that, instant rejection.
It happens. Usually they will give you reasons and you can just relate them and what you've learned from the experience... Being let go is actually a pretty valuable learning experience to grow and mature from.
I agree. It might be painful now but I learnt a lot from being let go at Amazon two years ago and I am doing much better and happier now
I got laid off from my first job and honestly that helped jump start my career. I was stuck where I was at in a bad situation
Did you get in based on referral? Did you inflate your resume ? If not, do you suspect discrimination?
What were the "so called performance issues"? Are you actually a terrible employee, or did she just have a vendetta against you. Do some self reflection and improve. You'll find something else, probably better too.
I mean you had to have done good work to last 1.5 years at amzn, no? I can’t imagine your manager would let a slacker survive for over a year without warning. You could spin it as just being laid off due to reorganization or some bs.
This is certainly not true from my experience. I know slackers who have hung on for over 3 years
@ablooper it is not possible for slackers to stay over 3 years with pip program
Apply elsewhere, if asked say you weren't excited by the tech and wanted to focus on the next thing. Main learning here should be pivot and PIP are just paid for period to find your next thing. Even if you recover from a pip pivot, it carries a stigma, best to just start fresh.
Most employers only disclose end date and not reason. Find someone else who will give you a good reference. Learn from the experience and move on. Not a big deal.
Amazon does this often. Don’t let it bother you. You should have taken the money as soon as they put you in a development plan and gave you a pip option.
This. Dev plan = job search PIP = cash severance and accept new job
I'm joining Amazon in a few months. What kind of performance issues could get someone canned? I mean, wouldn't your manager communicate issues with you before it got this far?
Ok, actionable advice: start applying ASAP. No time to mourn or sulk. Move fast. Forget that there is Xmas coming. Ask randos on Blind for referrals. Top priority is to get some job, not necessarily a FAANG job. Did I say ask for referrals and apply? Ok, once you do that, then you should... Ask for more referrals and apply. Then finally, ask for referrals and again apply. If all of the above fails, then ask for referrals and keep applying.
Why emphasis on only referral? Try both referral and online application? Btw can you refer me for swe postition at wayfair 😁
