Grab Senior Data Engineer Singapore

Base - S$113000 Bonus - 15% RSU - US $ 18000 Level offered - Grab level 4 I am currently making US$ 160000 per year including rsu living in Colorado, USA. I have 4.5+ years work experience with a Masters degree from US university. Is this a good offer? Also, off late I have seen a lot of negative reviews about grab on glassdoor. Can anyone from the company comment on how the environment is working at Grab. It would be great to talk from Grab data science team to know more about the teams in private chat.

Why do u want to move to Singapore?

Oracle tOiP41 OP Dec 1, 2019

My parents are in India and if I could get a comparable offer, then it would be good to move closer to my parents.

Take it if you value family. Nice offer tbh. Singapore taxes is low

This feels low, but seems to be a step up from your current situation. Congrats!

Oracle tOiP41 OP Dec 2, 2019

The rent is quite high in singapore. That makes up for lower tax rate. Also, my current salary is in Colorado where the cost of living is much cheaper than bay area or Singapore. So, I am not sure if this is a step up from my current situation.

Everyone on blind feels that they're lowballed by companies

Oracle tOiP41 OP Dec 2, 2019

Yeah I should not have put that before evaluating offer throughly. Deleted it. Thanks for reminding.

looks good to me

Oracle tOiP41 OP Dec 2, 2019

Can you tell me little bit more about the work culture in grab right now? How is the environment in general with a lot of attrition off late.

Grab taeyeonny Dec 2, 2019

highly dependent on org and team. yes there's been a lot of attrition but overall I'm still quite satisfied with the environment. I'm originally from north America, for cultural context

Don’t take anything less than 144 base so you can apply for transition from EP to PEP. Keep in mind cost of living in Singapore is 10-15% higher

Grab 2023IPO Dec 2, 2019

Too tough to get base of 144 for G4

Uber domosan Dec 2, 2019

Try getting a competing offer at Stripe, FB, etc. also consider interviewing with hedge funds and banks.

Grab GukDogGuk Dec 2, 2019

Offer looks “ok” for G4, but are they provided you absolute count of RSU? Because they probably calculated cost in the strange way. Recently left Grab Singapore(my base was a bit higher on G4) and I don’t think that grab is a good choice

Are those RSUs for 1 year or over 4 years? If it's 1 year (so actually you'll get $72000 over 4 years), it's a good offer for a level 4 (I mean Grab won't give you a better one unless you are hired as a level 5). Otherwise negotiate more shares!

Oracle tOiP41 OP Dec 2, 2019

These shares are for 1 year but have them for upto 4 years. I am at senior level in my company for about couple of years now. Is grab L4 entry level senior position?

Grab dNvn20 Dec 2, 2019

It is a senior position. Considering you pay is towards the high end, it’s appropriate for someone who have been senior for a few years. Unless you are looking to be a lead

Grab 2023IPO Dec 2, 2019

You need not live in city, the public transportation is super awesome.

Grab GrabOrDie Dec 7, 2019

It really depends, green/red mrt lines are overcrowded. Buses are ok, but only if it is express bus. If it is regular bus and you leave on east cost it may take 30-50 minutes(or even more).
