Do companies give extra points for candidates with greencard overs candidates with h1b? I deem they do as it’s quicker to hire, but are they really concerned?
Normally No. but if there are 2 suitable candidates, then in smaller companies, GC candidate get preference. Mainly low cost and short joining time. Bigger companies, mostly no, unless urgent requirement.
Green card candidates should get preference, as H1B is for when qualified talent with work authorization can’t be found.
IMO H1b should get preference because they are kind of shackled. H1bs from India even more so, because once you have them in the green card shackle, they’d rarely leave the employer.
H1Bs are 🍑 and exploited by managers on WLB. GC has the leverage of having 🍆
There was a time when being US citizen or GC holder would make it easier getting Job, nowadays seems like HM like to hire people on visa as they feel more in control and keep showing GC carrot
Yes. They are supposed to. In some cases they can be sanctioned heavily by the government if they don’t. Look up the Buy American Hire American Executive Order.
I’m so glad current admin is enforcing this BAHA EO. Though H1bs feel the brunt, the cost of sticking to the rule book should force employers to ask for better treatment of temp visa workers, which intein leads to better opportunities for citizens and Green Card holders (while weeding out fake resumes and incompetent workers)

Being an HR, I would say they are not really concerned. Infact we are thought not to discriminate. For big companies it really doesn't matter. All they care is High skills.
