I didn’t have the interviewer’s contact info so I confirmed his name using Google and guessed his email address using the HR rep’s email to send a thank you email. This was for an internship in the Bay Area. I just had good intentions, but I realised I probably went too far. Did I screw it up?
That’s so creepy man
I get candidates looking me up in LinkedIn before interview then sending connection requests after all the time it’s creepy by ok boomer standards but we live in a world where millennials find it normal so I’m ok with it too
Looking up on LinkedIn - normal, everyone wants to know who they are talking to, fair game. Connecting? - not sure though
You do you booboo.
It prolly won’t make or break it for you but ya don’t do this. I’ve had candidates do it a few times and it’s never appreciated.
Thank you for your reply. I definitely learned my lesson.
It’s a totally easy and understandable mistake to make. We get so much advice about how important it is to send ty letters, and it’s really not hard to guess emails so it doesn’t seem *that* creepy when you’re doing it. Don’t worry about it too much. Gl with finding an internship!
gg
It depends on what you use it for. If it's just a single polite thank you email, it's just a tiny bit creepy.
Yes, a polite brief email thanking him for his time and reiterated my interest in the position. Just wondering if this will negatively impact my chances.
Probably not.
OMG, what a horrible attack you launched by ..... guessing! Many places like Fb, Apple probably included phone interviewer in the interview confirmation email. Didn’t hear of their stock plummeting because of that!
Mate, where are you from?
The US
Don’t worry, their email address come in different formats. LastnameF@ FLastname@ etc. Unless you sent to all of them, it might not have gotten to them. And HM wouldn’t necessarily know you “guess” and “stalked” instead of knowing the address from someone.
This is definitely creepy and stalkerish. I haven’t seen this ruin interview feedback but it doesn’t help you either. That’s why some other big tech companies started dropping the last names of interviewers from the schedules they provide. At the same time, I wouldn’t stress about it. This is not a rare thing for people to do.
I've seen some outright link to the interviewers' LinkedIn profiles, but this can easily go either way.
You could have added them on LinkedIn and sent a thank you message there. I’ve had a few candidates do that and IMO that’s totally fine.
Yes, definitely better than what I did here! Thank you for your suggestion.
Yes.
